CNAO Foundation’s main activities are based on a small accelerator producing protons and carbon ions beams. These beams are produced with two ECR sources, pre-accelerated to 7 MeV/u by a short LINAC, injected in a synchrotron accelerating the particles up to a maximum energy of 400 MeV/u and finally distributed in 3 treatment rooms and one experimental room.
Upgrades of the machine are foreseen in the next future like the construction of a third source to widen the spectrum of available ion species and possibly the development and construction of a fourth treatment room equipped with a carbon ion gantry.
We are looking for an accelerator physicist to insert in the accelerator operation and in the R&D activities. The selected candidate will participate to the accelerator operation and development also working on shifts during nights and weekends and will furthermore contribute to the design phase of the CNAO expansion projects.
The language used at CNAO is Italian and it is therefore required to know it.
Knowledge of English and the capability of properly writing technical documentation and scientific articles are mandatory.
The following competences will be added advances:
- Previous experience on synchrotrons
- Previous experience in the field of hadrontherapy
- Knowledge of accelerator programs (in particular MADX and/or WinAgile)
- Knowledge of Matlab, Mathematica and/or a programming language
