Fondazione CNAO offers to the international patients and their families the opportunity to access to its innovative hadrontherapy treatment.
The National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO), established by the Health Ministry in 2001, is one of the 6 centers in the world using both protons and carbon ions for the treatment of radio-resistant tumors.

Treatable tumors
Hadrontherapy is an advanced form of radiotherapy. Radiation therapy alone, or combined with surgery and/or chemotherapy, improves local control in different tumors. In addition, the non-invasive nature of radiation therapy represents a suitable alternative to surgery for those tumors located in anatomical locations complicated by vital organs or in sites where tumor removal would be too debilitating for the patient.

Our radiation oncologist will need to review pantient's medical records before any appointment information can be completed.
Once the clinical case has been considered eligible to hadrontherapy, we will contact the patient to arrange the appointment to start the clinical path to the treatment, preliminary clinical consultation and MRI and CT scan preparatory to radiation treatment.

Running Agreements
Up to date the Italian National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy has specific agreements with two European countries, France and Norway. Thanks to those agreements, French and Norwegian citizens have the possibility to be treated at CNAO. The referring national Centers and radiation oncologists send the clinical documentation to CNAO in advance. After the evaluation by our practitioners, the patients can start clinical procedures and consultations to get to hadrontherapy.
